WILDLIFE WEDNESDAY

This beautiful Bald Eagle sat in this tree for quite some time watching us as we hiked by. He was magnificent when he finally took flight.

MONDAY MAGIC

JW and I planted a beautiful raised bed of his favorite peas this summer. They are growing very well and are beginning to produce lots of yummy peas.
But we have a bit of a mystery in the pea patch!......
The packet of peas was labeled Green Arrow but we somehow ended up with several that look oddly just like Sweet Peas.

They showed lots of beautiful color but unfortunately they died before they could fully develop into a large pea pod.
Of course since these are JW's favorite garden item it really wasn't very funny to him! He does eat them as he harvests them so they have never made it into the kitchen.

ROAD TRIP SCENES

We went on a road trip last week and stopped in Kellogg, Idaho just off of the I-90 interstate highway. I have seen many of this car dealers advertisements but had never been at any of his car lot's. You too, may have seen or heard his ads...Dave Smith Chevrolet. The locals call Kellogg DaveSmithville. He has cars for sale in every empty parking lot in town, and space that isn't being used has many cars sitting in them.

Gosh, you can get two color choices of this truck model...yeah, be the only one in your town to own one!!! You can have this model in any color you want as long as it's silver! Maybe this is really the warehouse inventory for OVERSTOCK.COM!

Happenings in the garden this month

Tomatoes are slow to grow here in Montana. Could be because the nights still can get down into the low 30's. Darn!
But if the deer don't find them we can still get a pretty good harvest from them before fall. So I am keeping a bit of deer netting over them during the night. Yes, the deer can be pretty sneaky. And even though the deer have no top teeth they still try to do as much damage to our plants as possible....and they usually succeed.

We have no idea what is going on with this years crop of peas. In all the years we have been planting them they have always produced white flowers that then develope into yummy pea pods. But this year they have produced flowers with beautiful color. It will be interesting to see what happens with the pretty colored ones. And fortunately there are still plenty of stalks with white flowers on them too.
Some of my flower pots have burst into bloom.....finally! These are very pretty red and orange snapdragons. One of my favorites.
Lot's of white color in this pretty pot.
And then there is my pink flowers in this large pot.
This is my first year in ages without a lot of Hosta plants around my yard. Apparently the 21 degrees below zero this last winter was just to much for them. I am sorry to see them go, they were all so beautiful in their own way. So all the large flower pots now hold plants with so much wonderful color. I am sure enjoying them this season.

I have found the elusive flower at last!

It has taken me 3 years but I have finally found the very elusive flower called the Bitter Root which was found by Lewis and Clark on their trek through this beautiful valley all those years ago. And of course this valley is named after this flower as is the river that runs the length of the valley.
I have been told, but have not read this fact myself, that this is the only place in the world this little beauty exists.
One reason I was having such a hard time finding one is that the flower closes close up in the early evening and opens late in the morning. I can't believe how many times I have walked right by this area where this flower is growing. The flower is only about 2 inches across and about 4 inches tall so that makes it difficult to see too.
So I am a happy girl now I was able to finally see this pretty flower actually growing instead just in a photo. And now I have a photo of my very own.

Thoughts for the week

The Importance of Walking can add minutes to your life.

This enables you at 85 years old to spend an additional 5 months in a nursing home at $7000 per month.

My grandpa started walking five miles a day when he was 60. Now he's 97 years old and we don't know where he is.

I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

The only reason I would take up walking is so that I could hear heavy breathing again.

I have to walk early in the morning, before my brain figures out what I'm doing..

I joined a health club last year, spent about 400 bucks. Haven't lost a pound. Apparently you have to go there.

Every time I hear the dirty word 'exercise', I wash my mouth out with chocolate.

I do have flabby thighs, but fortunately my stomach covers them.

The advantage of exercising every day is so when you die, they'll say, 'Well, she looks good doesn't she.'

If you are going to try cross-country skiing, start with a small country.

I know I got a lot of exercise the last few years,..... just getting over the hill.

We all get heavier as we get older, because there's a lot more information in our heads.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it..

AND Every time I start thinking too much about how I look, I just find a Happy Hour and by the time I leave, I look just fine.

You could run this over to your friends,,,But just e-mail it to them!
