MEMORIES OF MONTANA

This is a photo I took while my husband and I were on a hike not far from our home while we were living in Montana.

As the moose came around the corner on our trail I was certain that it wouldn't be the moose that needed to step out of the way.

After surveying the area I decided (very quickly mind you!) that to the left of the trail was a creek...and I knew Moose did not mind getting in the water.

On the right side of the trail was a large rock fall. I figured we would have a better chance if we climbed up there cause at least we would have a bit of ammunition to use if the moose for some strange reason decided he wanted to climb the rock fall too.

We were able to climb up just this short distance up and off the trail before the moose decided he needed to be on his way.  You can't see in this picture but he didn't take his eye off of us as he strolled by probably wondering why those silly people climbed up on that terrible rock fall!

Of course we were both very relieved that he was more interested in going on about his own business rather than getting after us.  But the event made for a very memorable photograph.  It always makes me smile when I see it and remember that incredible encounter in the mountains of Montana.

That's a great shot of Mr. Moose, I can see that you were up on the rocks when you took it. I would have chosen the same path out of his way.

I have heard there are moose in our area but so far I haven't seen one here. In Anchorage they would come into the downtown area sometimes. And of course their presence brought traffic to a halt.
