We enjoyed the Lunar Eclipse last evening. The sky was full of nothing but the full moon and a bazillion stars. What a wonderful sight.
This small herd of Deer have found the bird feeder in the back yard and always seem to know when the birds have visited the feeder.

I took this picture this afternoon while the Turkeys were in the yard looking for seeds. The sun was causing their feathers to turn the most incredible colors. At least I think is was caused by the sun. The time for breeding seems to be in the air as the Tom Turkeys are becoming very agressive and possesive of the females. Hmmm...must be that time. It is amazing how large these guys become when they puff up their feathers and spread out those magnificent tail feathers. I sure hope to get some pictures when they are in full feather!

NAIROBI (AFP) - A baby Hippopotamus that survived the tsunami waves on the Kenyan Coast has formed a strong bond with a giant male century-old Tortoise in an animal facility in the port city of Mombassa, officials said.

The Hippopotamus, nicknamed Owen and weighing about 650 pounds, was swept down the
Sabaki River into the Indian Ocean, then forced back to shore when the tsunami waves struck the Kenyan Coast on December 26, before Wildlife Rangers rescued him.

" It is encredible. A less than a year old Hippo has adopted a male Tortoise, about a century old, and the Tortoise seems to be very happy with being its 'mother', Ecologist Paula Kahumbu, who is in charge of Lafarge Park, told AFP.

"After it was swept away and lost it's mother, the Hippo was traumatized. It had to look for something to be a surrogate mother. Fortunately, it landed on the Tortoise and established a strong bond. They swim, eat and sleep together," the Ecologist added. "The Hippo follows the Tortoise exactly the way it followed its mother.

If somebody approaches the Tortoise, the Hippo becomes aggressive, as if protecting its biological mother," Kahumbu added. "The Hippo is a young baby, he was left at a very tender age and by nature, Hippos are social animals that like to stay with their mothers for four years," he explained.

I TOOK THIS PHOTO YESTERDAY AS WE DROVE INTO TOWN. BECAUSE WE HAD VERY LITTLE SNOW LAST WINTER THIS IS THE HEAVIEST COVERING OF SNOW I HAVE YET TO SEE ON TRAPPER PEAK. SHE IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND CHANGES EVERY TIME I SEE HER.

THE THERMOMETER SHOWED 4 DEGREES WHEN I GOT OUT OF BED THIS MORNING AND NOW...AT 3:00 PM... IT SHOWS 54 DEGREES. QUITE A TEMPERATURE CHANGE IN SUCH A SHORT TIME.

WE ARE BOTH WATCHING THE DAYTONA 500 NASCAR RACE THIS AFTERNOON BUT THE SUNSHINE KEEPS BECKONING ME TO GO OUTSIDE AND ENJOY THE BEAUTIFUL SUNSHINE. I THINK I WILL GO FOR A WALL WHILE THE TEMPERATURE IS STILL AT A PLEASANT TEMPERATURE!! HAVE A GREAT DAY!

This incredible machine was built as a collaborative effort between The Robert M. Trammell Music Conservatory and the Sharon Wick School of Engineering at the University of Iowa.

Amazingly, 97% of the machines components came from John Deere Industries and Irrigation Equipment of Bancroft, Iowa, yes farm equipment!

It took the team a combined 13,029 hours of set-up, alignment, calibration, and tuning before filming this video but as you can see it was well worth the effort.

It is now on display in the Matthew Gerhard Alumni Hall at the University and is already slated to be donated to the Smithsonian. ENJOY!

I just couldn't find a photo that I wanted to post today so I thought I would posts these pretty pictures taken in Maui, Hawaii last year.

No, JW and I were not the lucky ones to get to visit this beautiful place with all it's wonderful weather and beautiful plants and flowers. The lucky one was my son JT who has spent several vacations on this lovely island.

It has been several years since my last visit to the islands but I can still smell the air as I departed from the airplane when I arrived in Honolulu. The air always seemed to be filled with encredible smell of beautiful flowers.
Yes, I miss that wonderful place but it was already overcrowded even back then so I am sure there are a lot more people there now. And having been living in the wonderful state of Montana for almost a year and a half, I have learned to appreciate the awesome open air and wonders of the wilderness far to much to want to return to overcrowding and traffic jams. I have discovered that it is very easy to learn to love and apprecate this kind of lifestyle. As my Blog header states...."In Montana by the Grace of God" and I really beleive that.

This guy raised an abandoned moose calf with his horses, and believe it or not, he has trained it for lumber removal and other hauling tasks.

Given the 2,000 pounds of robust muscle, and the splayed, grippy hooves, he claims it is the best work animal he has.

He says the secret to keeping the moose around is a sweet salt lick, although during the rut he disappears for a couple of weeks, but always, always comes home.... wow.
