THE COOKIE MONSTER by Valerie Fox

A woman was waiting at an airport one night
with several long hours before her flight,
she hunted for a book in the airport shops,
bought a bag of cookies and found a place to drop.

She was engrossed in her book but happen to see,
that the man sitting beside her as bold as could be,
grabbed a cookie or two from the bag between,
which she tried to ignore to avoid a scene.

She munched cookies and watched the clock,
as the gutsy cookie thief, diminished her stock.....
She was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by,
thinking, "If I wasn't so nice, I would blacken his eye."

With each cookie she took, he took one too,
when only one was left, she wondered what he would do.
With a smile on his face, and a nervous laugh,
he took the last cookie and broke it in half.

He offered her half, as he ate the other,
she snatched it from him and thought.......oooooooh brother,
why he didn't even show any gratitude.

She had never known when she had been so galled,
and sighed with relief when her flight was called.
She gathered her belongings and headed to the gate.
refusing to look back at that thieving ingrate.

She boarded the plane, and sank in her seat,
then sought her book, which was almost complete.
As she reach in her baggage, she gasped with surprise,
there was her bag of cookies, in front of her eyes.

If mine are here, she moaned with despair,
The others were his, and he tried to share.
Too late to apologize, she realized with grief,
that she was the rude one, the ingrate, the thief!

How many times in your life have you absolutely known that something is a certain way, only to discover later that what you believed to be, was not?

TURN UP THE HEAT!!!

JW has chosen this old wood stove to install in his machine shop in Montana. Of course there will also be a propane heater over in the corner for those cold winter days when he is not in the shop. I will post new pictures when we have finished installing all the chrome parts and the chimney and get a fire going. There is something wonderful about wood heat!

I am again loading the truck to head back to Montana this week. Gosh, I bet that truck could drive itself there by now!!! Some of the rooms here in Cashmere are beginning to look a little bare but then I look again and there seems to be loads of stuff to move yet. Darn!

It can't be September 23rd already!!!

This beautiful rose is growing near the church that is just down the street from our home. They are so gorgeous in the fall!! Our air is very crisp in the mornings and then again in the evenings so my walks are limited to the warmer afternoons!!

We have been so busy packing and moving that I didn't realize that September is just about gone. On my!! What a short summer this has been for me. It would be nice if this coming winter passed that quickly?? I know, I am wishing my life away!! Time can go by so quickly all by itself with me wanting it too!!!

I received the following in an email today and I just had to include it here. I hope you enjoy it!!

10 WAYS TO KNOW IF YOU HAVE ESTROGEN ISSUES:

1. Everyone around you has an attitude problem.

2. You're adding chocolate chips to your cheese omelet.

3. The dryer has shrunk every last pair of your jeans.

4. Your husband is suddenly agreeing to everything you say.

5. You're using your cellular phone to dial up every bumper sticker that says: "How's my driving? Call 1-800-".

6. Everyone seems to have just landed here from "outer space".

7. You're sure that everyone is scheming to drive you crazy.

8. The ibuprofen bottle is empty and you bought it yesterday.

On the road again!

We found this "SHOE TREE" out in the middle of nowhere in north central Oregon this past weekend. It was such an amazing site that I just had to turn around and go back for a picture. There seems to be all ages of shoes on this tree. We have no idea how long this tree has been a 'work in progress' or why!

We traveled another 1,031 miles on this trip bring my total of miles traveled in the month of September to 2,321! But it was a wonderful trip as we were able to visit with two different couples that are near and dear to us and we hadn't seen in quite some time. We both enjoyed ourselves so very much that the miles went by very quickly.

So we are home again and back to more packing and planning for the great move.

MAIN STREET USA

This is the entrance to our new "little town" in Montana.
This is Main Street in Darby....No stop lights! But there are wonderful cafe's, antique stores, JW's favorite candy store...Yes, they have his favorite English candy!, and of course a wonderful Napa store that my son-in-law owns! Our new residence is just a few miles to the south of this cute town. I believe we are going to really like it here. We plan to be moved there by the 1st of October to try to beat the first snow of the season.

Boy, am I tired!!!!

On Friday we loaded the 41 Dodge onto a car trailer, loaded two truckbeds with as much "small" shop machines and tools as they could hold, then early Saturday morning we left in the two pickup trucks, heading to Darby, Montana. The smoke filled the skies from Spokane, Washington all the way into Montana, making it hard to breathe...Especially for JW and his Asthma. Add in the plowing of the harvested wheat fields causing dust across the freeway that blocked out the sun in several places, and it was a long trip. The smoke is from the nations largest forest fire located in central Montana. We were very happy to finally arrive in Darby. Total miles traveled on Saturday...500.

Then I left Darby to return to Cashmere early Sunday morning. Nice trip...Clear skies...Great weather...Light traffic. Total miles...Another 520. (I took a few detours to stop at a few statuairy stores that I found along the way!)

Monday morning...Headed to Seattle to help my son with a project...Returned to Cashmere late afternoon..Total miles...270.

Total miles covered in 3 days....1,290!!!

Today...Tuesday...I don't believe I will even leave the house. I am SOOOOO tired!!!!! The picture I have posted was taken while driving down the freeway heading towards Missoula, Montana. It appears to be a typical scene in the state of Montana. Please note what it says on his license plate!!! If it's difficult to read I beleive it states.."IGOTELK" This seems to be a way of life in this big state.

The picture of our trucks was taken at one of the many rest stops along the freeway. Coffee and cookies...awesome!!

IT'S ONLY MONEY!!

MONEY

It can buy a house, But not a home.

It can buy a clock, But not time.

It can buy you a position, But not respect.

It can buy you a bed, But not sleep.

It can buy you a book, But not knowledge.

It can buy you medicine, But not health.

It can buy you blood, But not life.

So you see, money isn't everything, And it often causes pain and suffering.

I tell you this because I am your friend.

And as you friend, I want to take away you pain and suffering!!!

So, send me all your money And I will suffer for you!

After all, what are friends for, huh???

Keep smiling!! Oh, Visa and Mastercards accepted!

WANTED----A GOOD TEACHER

Since school has finally started here I thought this list of rules for teachers would be fitting...

In earlier times, anyone who passed eighth grade was allowed to take an examination for a teacher's certificate. A list of rules for these young women seem harsh compared with today's standards....

1. You will not marry during the term of your contract.

2. You are not to keep company with a man.

3. You must be home between the hours of 8 pm and 6 am unless attending a school function.

4. You may not loiter downtown in stores or ice cream parlors.

5. You may not ride in a carriage or automobile with any man unless he is your father or brother.

6. You may not travel beyond the city limits unless you have the permission of the chairman of the board.

7. You may not smoke cigarettes.

8. You may not dress in bright colors.

9. You may not, under any circumstances, dye your hair.

10. You must wear at least two petticoats.

11. Your dresses must not be any shorter than two inches above the ankle.

12. To keep the schoolroom neat and clean, you must sweep the floor at least once daily and scrub the floor at least once a week with hot, soapy water. Clean blackboards at least once a day and start the fire at 7 am so the room will be warm by 8 am.

And to think, some people say they miss the good old days!!

A BREATH OF FRESH AIR!

I took my camera with me this afternoon when I went for my walk. These flower pictures were taken in my neighborhood. The cooler evenings sure seem to bring out more vibrant color in these flowers.

There were a lot of people out in their yards enjoying the beautiful holiday weekend. I smelled lot's of barbecues along my walk...Yummy!!!

My organizing and packing is going real well but I have realized that I have a better day and sleep better at night if I get outside each day and get some fresh air. It does feel so very good to go for a fast walk each day.

MY TOAD LILY IS FINALLY IN BLOOM!!!

While I was taking my afternoon break I happened to notice that my wonderful Toad Lily has finally begun to bloom. I picked up my camera and snapped a few pictures of this tiny plant. The blooms are actually only about ONE INCH ACROSS!!! They are so dainty and have such a beautiful range of color in just a single flower. I have it planted in to much shade but it is going with us to our new home so I will be able to plant her in full sun that she likes so much.

OK, I TOOK ANOTHER BREAK!!!

Oh, all right, I confess, I took off a little time yesterday afternoon to repot a few of my hosta into bigger pots. Yes, I love shopping at Half Price Pots!!!! And I found some beauties to use for many of my hostas that have grown enough to graduate into a larger home.

The packing is going well...I have a mountain of boxes sharing our little space here. But we plan to take a few loads of items to Montana sometime in the next week, so we can navigate through the house without running into a barricade of boxes in the middle of the night!!!

So, now it's time to get back to work. See ya soon
