MY POOR LITTLE GARDEN

This is the results I have gotten in my poor little garden. I have decided that there is no reason to try to pull all of these 2 month old weeds. I will tag the plants I plan on taking with me and the rest will either go to friends gardens or left to do their own thing. The green in the foreground is Creeping Jenny which as helped to keep down some of the weeds in that area. But the walkways are so out of control that I brought in the small lawn mower and just mowed them down.
This is the before picture as I started to tackle to weed pulling job. Our temperature has been up to 106 degrees in the last few weeks and it's just to hot for me to spend enough time in the garden to control the weeds. I have found most of the plants I want to take with me so I will no longer worry about the growth of weeds in my beautiful little garden. It's so hard on me that I will be thankful when I no longer have to go out there and see how things have changed. To much love and effort has been put into this little area.

GOD'S COLORING BOOK!!

With the forest fires burning around us, we have been wittness to some spectacular sunsets. Stepping out our door in the evenings has shown us some fabulous sites!!!

We have been keeping very busy trying to organize our lives. We have made the decision to move our lives to Darby, Montana. The move will take place this summer instead of moving next spring as we had previously planned. Since we have cut our summer adventure short we see no reason to wait till next spring. So the biggest project will be packing and moving JW's machine shop. As he is busy building containers and organizing his shop, I am busy going through all our house hold things trying to minimize as much as possible.

I am also planning which of my precious plants will make the move with us. Very hard decisions for me. But until we install my white picket fence we will have very limited planting space. And I will have a new challenge of gardening in deer country! So I am trying to be very selective but so far I haven't been doing real well...No surprise to me or JW!!!

We are planning a trip to our new home in Montana sometime in the next few weeks. I need to take some measurements and Wilson has some planning to do in the new machine shop location. So, life is very busy for us at the moment and we are loving it. Life is good!!

I FOUND A SURPRISE IN MY GARDEN!!

During my early morning garden recovery work this morning I found a wonderful surprise!! It is one of my mums that I didn't think had survived but there it was! So my hard work is already paying off.

The temperature is once again hovering around 106 degrees this afternoon. So I am planning to stay inside this afternoon and spend some time in front of the fan. Stay cool everyone!!!!!

GARDEN CHALLENGE AHEAD

This is the challenge that lies ahead of me in my little garden! Believe it or not...My beautiful flowers are in there somewhere and my task in the coming weeks is to find them!!! The biggest hurdle I have to get over is the temperature. It has been climbing up to 106 degrees in the afternoons for the last several days and our weatherman doesn't seem to think there is any relief in the next week. Great!

Because of the heat I have been putting lot's of water on my struggling garden. The plants have responded well but so have those horrible weeds. I have been going out to the garden about 6am each morning to pull some of the weeds, spending about an hour and a half before the heat forces me back inside to find the wonderful cool air of my fan!

So, this is a chore that will take me awhile to complete. But I must say, I am very thankful to be back to our little home. I didn't realize how much I enjoyed my home and yard until we had gone away. IT IS WONDERFUL TO BE HOME!!!!

We will start up this blog when we begin our next "adventure" (in the near future!!). Until then... Goodbye

FIREWEED...epilobium angustifolium...This beautiful flower grows from 2 - 4 feet tall. The seed pods split open and disgorge thousands of time, fluffy seeds that can be carried on winds for great distances. The honey of the Fireweed rates very high with bee-keepers.
This is a very small wild pink rose we found beside a trail. It measure just a little over a inch and a half across.
Woodland penstemon...Nothochelone nemorosa...This flower grows to 24" and blooms from June till September.
And of course this is my favorite..Tiger Lily... Columbia Lily. This wild lily grows to 30" but it differs from our home garden variety as the flower may only grow to just 1 1/2" to 2" in width. But it still has the beauty of our garden lily!!
.

This photo was taken from about the same spot just 15 minutes later!!! The locals say the lake can change her attitude in just minutes and we have just witnessed that happening. Amazing how quickly she can change. We did pack up our things and head back up the trail!!
